The top officials of Serbia and Hungary launched the reconstruction of the railway section Subotica - Horgos - State Border
Today, at the Horgos station, Serbian President Aleksandr Vucic and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban gave a symbolic start to the project for the reconstruction of the railway line Subotica - Horgos - State border with Hungary.

The Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia Tomislav Momirovic, Chairman of the Government of Vojvodina Igor Mirovic, Mayor of Subotica Stevan Bakic and other honored guests visited the event.

RZD International is reconstructing this 26 km railway line in a consortium with the Serbian company Karin Komerc MD. The contract was signed on June 12, 2021. The last time the line was renovated more than 20 years ago, and the oldest rails are dated 1883, so their age is almost 140 years. During the reconstruction, the consortium will carry out works on modernization of stations, signaling and telecommunication systems, electrical equipment, power supply systems and engineering structures. Trains will be able to reach speeds of up to 120 km/h on this section.

After the reconstruction the Subotica - Horgos - State border railway line will connect the territories of the South Danube in Hungary and Vojvodina in Serbia towards Romania, which will strengthen the positions of more environmentally friendly and safe, compared to automobile, rail transport in the region. The line will pass through the main logistics centers in the region, including the Baja intermodal port on the Danube, the Szeged port on the Tisza river and the planned logistics centers in Vojvodina.
