Russian Railways Exports Modern High-Speed Traffic Technologies to Serbia
On October 12, Alexander Misharin, First Deputy Chief Executive Officer of JSC Russian Railways, inspected the construction site of RZD International (a part of the Russian Railways holding) on the Stara Pazova – Novi Sad section of the Belgrade – Budapest railway line, where the Company is currently working on construction of the unique to Serbia railway facilities – Cortanovci tunnel and the viaduct in a floodplain of the Danube river. The company also performs reconstruction of the existing and construction of the new double-track railway for the speed of 200 km/h there.

On the same day, Alexander Misharin, First Deputy CEO, and Alexander Chepurin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Serbia, held a meeting with Zorana Mihajlović, Deputy Prime Minister,Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia during his working visit to Serbia. Among the topics discussed were the prospects for cooperation between Russia and Serbia in the railway transport area.

The agenda for the meeting included topical issues of cooperation in the field of railway transport: the progress of the ongoing building and reconstruction works on the Stara Pazova – Novi Sad section, as well as the new promising projects like the joint maintenance of the Serbian railway infrastructure, continuation of the Belgrade – Bar railway line reconstruction and the Integrated traffic control center creation project.

The enhancement of the railway traffic management is an important part of the Serbian railways modernization. In August 2018, representatives of the Ministry of Construction, Transportation and Infrastructure and JSC Serbian Railways Infrastructure became acquainted with the operation of the JSC Russian Railways traffic control centers in Moscow, Yaroslavl and Rostov-on-Don. Organization of this Centre in Serbia will allow for integration of the new traffic management technologies, as well as the constant monitoring of the rail traffic, and consequently increase the throughput capacity of the railway line, minimize operational costs and raise transportation safety level.

Since 2014 RZD International, a part of the Russian Railways holding, has been carrying out extensive works on constructing and upgrading railway infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia.

Serbian party pointed out the consistently high quality level of works performed by Russian Railways, which ZoranaMihajlović defined as “benchmark”..

The Company has already finished reconstruction of the Belgrade-Pancevo section, railway structures within the Pan-European Transport Corridor X development project, and Resnik – Valjevo section of the Belgrade – Bar railway line. Also, Russian-made Diesel Multiple Unit trains (DMU) were delivered to Serbia.

The cost of the Contract for the reconstruction and modernization of the Serbian railway infrastructure totals $941 mln, including $800 mln raised from state export credit provided to the Government of the Republic of Serbia by the Government of the Russian Federation.

On the sections where the works are already done, the artificial structures, earth works, catenary network and telecommunication systems were reconstructed, hence the speed increased from 40 to 120 km/h for the passengers’ and to 100 km/h for the freight trains.

For the first time in Serbian history, “RZD International” has started the works aimed at raising the speed up to 200 km/h on the Stara Pazova – Novi Sad section.
